IPMAT 2027 at a glance
IPMAT Indore is IIM Indore's entrance test for its five-year Integrated Programme in Management (IPM), which leads to a BA (Foundations of Management) and an MBA. It runs for 120 minutes in three 40-minute sections: Quantitative Ability (MCQ), Quantitative Ability (Short Answer) and Verbal Ability. Candidates must clear a minimum mark in every section to be considered for a personal interview, and final selection weights the test at 65% and the interview at 35%.

Two blocks of 40 minutes each: 15 short-answer questions you type in, with no negative marking, and 30 MCQs at +4 and −1. Paper analyses find the MCQs moving away from plain arithmetic towards coordinate geometry, counting, probability and progressions, and rate them tougher than the short-answer block.

- A right answer earns 4 marks and a wrong one costs 1, so skip what you cannot narrow down.
If log₂ x + log₄ x + log₁₆ x = 7, what is x?
- A 2

16. Write every term in base 2: log₄ x = ½ log₂ x and log₁₆ x = ¼ log₂ x. Then (1 + ½ + ¼) log₂ x = 7, so log₂ x = 7 ÷ 7/4 = 4 and x = 2⁴ = 16. Stopping at log₂ x gives 4, which is there as a trap.
How many four-digit numbers have digits that strictly increase from left to right, as in 2579?

- B 126
- C 210

126. Four different digits go in increasing order in only one way, so count choices of digits, not arrangements. 0 can never be used - it would have to come first - so the count is ⁹C₄ = 126. Letting 0 in gives ¹⁰C₄ = 210, the trap.
A line passes through (1, 7) and (4, 1). What is the area of the triangle it makes with the two axes?

- B 13.5
- C 20.25

20.25. Slope = (1 − 7) ÷ (4 − 1) = −2, so the line is y = 9 − 2x. It meets the axes at (4.5, 0) and (0, 9), so the area is ½ × 4.5 × 9 = 20.25. Forgetting the ½ gives 40.5.

- Is there negative marking in IPMAT Indore?
- Yes. In IPMAT Indore every question carries 4 marks, and a wrong answer in the two MCQ sections costs 1 mark. The Quantitative Ability Short Answer section has no negative marking.
- How many questions are in IPMAT Indore and how long is it?
- IPMAT Indore lasts 120 minutes, in three sections of 40 minutes each taken in a fixed order. IIM Indore does not publish a question count, but prep-site analyses of the 2024-2026 papers count 90 questions: 15 quant short-answer, 30 quant MCQs and 45 verbal MCQs.
- What is the IPMAT Indore syllabus?
- IPMAT Indore has three sections: Quantitative Ability (MCQ), Quantitative Ability (Short Answer) and Verbal Ability. Recent papers tested arithmetic, algebra, logarithms, geometry, probability and matrices in quant, and reading comprehension, para-jumbles, sentence completion and grammar in verbal.
- Do I need Mathematics in Class 12 for IPMAT Indore?
- IIM Indore's 2026 admission procedure for IPMAT Indore does not list Mathematics as a required Class 12 subject or set a minimum percentage. It asked for Class 12 passed in 2024 or 2025, or appearing in 2026, and a date of birth on or after 1 August 2006 (1 August 2001 for SC, ST and PwD candidates).
- What were the IPMAT Indore 2026 cut-offs?
- IPMAT Indore uses sectional cut-offs: a candidate must clear a minimum mark in each of the three sections to be considered for interview. Career Launcher reported 2026 General-category cut-offs of 28 out of 60 (Short Answer), 27 out of 120 (quant MCQ) and 111 out of 180 (Verbal), with 838 candidates shortlisted for interview.
