Try two questions from MSAT Paper 1
Numerical Reasoning
Six students, Anya, Kabir, Meera, Dev, Riya, and Omar, live on different floors of a 6-floor hostel, with floor 1 at the bottom and floor 6 at the top. Meera lives on the 2nd floor. Kabir lives somewhere above Meera but not on the top floor. Exactly two floors are between Omar and Riya. Anya lives immediately above Omar. Dev lives below Anya. Who lives on the top floor?
- A Anya
- B Kabir
- C Omar
- D Riya
Logical Reasoning
In a campus coding contest, it is claimed that “Riya scored more marks than Kunal.” Consider the following statements: Statement I: Riya scored more than Mehul, and Mehul scored more than Kunal. Statement II: Kunal scored less than Tanya, and Tanya scored less than Riya. Which of the following is correct?
- A Statement I alone is sufficient, but Statement II alone is not sufficient
- B Statement II alone is sufficient, but Statement I alone is not sufficient
- C Either Statement I alone or Statement II alone is sufficient
- D Both statements together are required to answer

Open the MSAT papersWhat Mesa Numerical Reasoning looks like
Mesa says its MSAT has video and written sections, and accounts of the 2026 test add short multiple-choice reasoning questions, so the sums are quick. Mesa publishes no syllabus or sample paper; expect business arithmetic - percentages, ratios and everyday word problems - at an easy BBA-entrance level.
- Percentages and discounts
- Profit and loss
- Ratios and rates
- Everyday word problems
| Item | Price (₹) | Weekend offer |
|---|---|---|
| Cricket bat | 2,400 | 25% off |
| Football | 900 | Buy 3, get 1 free |
| Badminton racket | 1,500 | 20% off, then a further 10% off |
| Skipping rope | 250 | ₹50 off |
How much does the badminton racket's offer save on its price?
- A ₹420
- B ₹450
- C ₹1,050
- D ₹1,080
Show the answer
₹420. ₹1,500 × 0.8 × 0.9 = ₹1,080 paid, so the saving is ₹420. That is 28%, not 30%, because the second 10% comes off the already reduced price; adding the two discounts gives the trap, ₹450.
Measured against the full price of everything you take home, which offer saves the largest percentage?
- A Cricket bat
- B Football
- C Skipping rope
- D Badminton racket
Show the answer
Badminton racket. Racket 28%, bat 25%, rope ₹50 ÷ ₹250 = 20%. The football offer gives 1 free in every 4, so it is 25% - reading it as 33⅓% divides by the 3 you pay for instead of the 4 you take home.
At the weekend price the shop still makes a 20% profit on the bat. What did the bat cost the shop?
- A ₹1,440
- B ₹1,500
- C ₹1,800
- D ₹2,000
Show the answer
₹1,500. Weekend price = ₹2,400 × 0.75 = ₹1,800, which is 120% of cost, so cost = 1,800 ÷ 1.2 = ₹1,500. Taking 20% off ₹1,800 gives the trap, ₹1,440: profit is a share of cost, not of price.
