- 2Parts can misleadRoots help, but read the whole word: thrift means saving, yet a spendthrift is someone who wastes money.
- 3Person, act or qualityMatch the form the definition asks for: 'a person who' needs a person (plagiarist), 'the act of' an action (plagiarism), 'that cannot be' an adjective.
- 4Look-alike trapsOne letter changes the meaning: incorrigible (cannot be reformed) vs incorruptible (cannot be bribed), ascetic (self-denying) vs aesthete (lover of beauty).

- Q1Easy
Choose the one word for: a large cage or enclosure where birds are kept.
Correct answerAviary
Why
Split the root: 'avi' means bird, as in aviation.
An apiary keeps bees, an aquarium keeps fish, and an armoury keeps weapons.
So a place for keeping birds is an aviary.
- Q2Easy
Choose the single word that best means: “a person who strongly believes that human actions are guided by selfish motives rather than by sincerity or goodness.”
Correct answerCynic
Why
Tick every clue: the definition is about doubting people's motives, not claims in general.
Sceptics question claims, realists are simply practical, and critics judge work; only one word assumes people act for their own gain.
The answer is 'Cynic'.
