- Q1Easy
Choose the word that correctly fills the blank: The bus was late, so Riya had to wait for ______ hour at the stop.
Correct answeran
Why
Choose 'a' or 'an' by the first sound, not the first letter.
The 'h' in 'hour' is silent, so the word starts with a vowel sound.
So Riya waited for 'an' hour.
- Q2Easy
Choose the word that correctly fills the blank: At the fest, Kabir bought a kurta and a jacket, but ______ kurta turned out to be too tight.
Correct answerthe
Why
A first mention takes 'a'; once the reader knows which one, it takes 'the'.
The kurta was already brought in as 'a kurta', so now it is a known one.
So it is 'the' kurta.
