  1. 1Question first, then gridRead the question line first, then put the paragraph into a grid: groups down, attributes across, totals in the last row and column.
  2. 2The rest'The rest', 'remaining' and 'others' are the total minus every stated part; work them out before you use them.
  3. 3Check the baseAsk what each percent or ratio is of: '40% of those shortlisted' or '25% fewer than Stall A' is not a share of the whole.

  1. Q1Easy

A hostel has 300 students, of whom 180 are boys. 120 of the students are from Delhi, and 50 of the Delhi students are girls. How many girls in the hostel are not from Delhi?

    Correct answer70

    Why

Fill a two-by-two grid: boys and girls down, Delhi and not Delhi across.

    Girls total 300−180=120300 - 180 = 120, and 50 of them are from Delhi.

So 120−50=70120 - 50 = 70 girls are not from Delhi (110 is the boys not from Delhi).

  2. Q2Easy

A campus tea stall sells tea at ₹15 a cup and coffee at ₹25 a cup. On Friday it sold 160 cups in all, and 35% of them were coffee. How much did the stall take in on Friday?

    Correct answer₹2,960

    Why

Split the cups first, then price each kind.

    35% of 160 is 56 coffees, and the other 104 are teas: 56×25+104×15=1400+156056 \times 25 + 104 \times 15 = 1400 + 1560; pricing every cup at the ₹20 midpoint gives the trap ₹3,200.

So the stall took in ₹2,960.
