Rules
At a glance 9 rules
- 1Radar as a tableEach spoke is one parameter and each polygon one series. Copy the values into a small table (spokes down, series across) before any question.
- 2Value per ring
- 3Count the winsFor 'on how many parameters does A beat B', go spoke by spoke and tally. A tie is not a win; 'at least as high' counts ties.
- 4Compare totals by gaps
- 5The missing spoke
- 6Weighted score
- 7Different scalesIf each spoke has its own maximum, turn every value into a percent of its spoke's maximum before adding or averaging.
- 8Rule first, then rankApply the stated rule first (head-to-head wins, drop the best and worst), then rank; the highest plain total often loses.
- 9Room to the cap

- Q1Easy
Two phones are rated out of 10 on a radar chart:
Camera: P 8, Q 7
Battery: P 6, Q 9
Display: P 9, Q 9
Speed: P 7, Q 6
Price: P 5, Q 8
On how many of the five parameters is Phone P rated higher than Phone Q?
Correct answer2
Why
Go spoke by spoke and tally only strict wins.
P is ahead on Camera (8 to 7) and Speed (7 to 6); Display is a 9-all tie, which is not a win.
So P is rated higher on 2 parameters.
- Q2Easy
On a radar chart, the centre stands for 20 and the outermost ring for 100, with 4 equal steps from the centre to the outer ring. A point sits on the third ring out from the centre (the centre itself is not a ring). What value does it show?
Correct answer80
Why
Find the value of one step, then count up from the centre's value, not from 0.
Each step is , so the rings read 40, 60, 80 and 100.
The third ring out shows , which is 80.
