Tara puts ₹20,000 in a bank deposit that pays 5% per annum compound interest, compounded annually. How much interest does she earn in 2 years?
A ₹1,000 B ₹2,000 C ₹2,050 D ₹22,050
Correct answer· ₹2,050
Why
Two years of compound interest is two years of simple interest plus interest on the first year's interest.
One year earns 5% of ₹20,000, which is ₹1,000, so two years give ₹2,000, and that first ₹1,000 earns 5% more: ₹50.
So she earns ₹2,050 in interest.

The simple interest on a certain sum of money invested at 7.5 % 7.5\% 7.5% per annum for 4 years is ₹243. What was the sum (in ₹) invested?
A 840 B 750 C 810 D 900
Correct answer· 810
Why
Read simple interest as one total percent: 7.5 × 4 = 30 7.5 \times 4 = 30 7.5 × 4 = 30 .
So ₹243 is 30% of what was invested, and 243 ÷ 0.3 = 810 243 \div 0.3 = 810 243 ÷ 0.3 = 810 .
The sum invested was ₹810.
